Install the CCH Workpapers Add-in on a terminal server

The terminal server version of the CCH Workpapers Add-in is machine-based, as opposed to user-based, like the PC version.

The terminal server version of the CCH Workpapers Add-in consists of two parts:

  1. The CCH Workpapers Add-in.
  2. A floating license server application.

The floating license server can be installed on any network computer. It distributes floating license leases to the CCH Workpapers Add-in application. This is a technical task best performed by your IT provider.

System requirements

As per the standard application, you will need access to the Internet to download the Add-in. The Add-in requires a .NET framework and access to temporary files. Please note that these are standard settings on most servers.

Specifically for terminal server, you will need:

  1. A port open between the terminal server(s) and the computer the floating license server is installed on. The default port is 13 but this port may be changed.
  2. When the floating license server is initially activated, it will need to connect to the LimeLM Servers. Online activation connects to the activation servers using port 80 (HTTP) or port 443 (HTTPS). If you specify a proxy URL in the config file provided, the floating license server instance will subsequently try to connect to the activation servers via the specified URL.

Activate and install the server

Before the floating license server can start serving licenses for client applications, it must be activated with a special product key for the floating license server. Contact us for your new product key.

  1. Download and save the zip file containing:
    • TurboFloatServer.exe ( the floating license server)
    • TurboFloatServer-config (a config file where proxy settings may be configured if required)
    • TurboActivate.dat (a data file for use by the license server, which contains information about the CCH Workpapers Add-in)
    • Electronic Workpaper Excel file
  2. Unzip and extract the folder to an appropriate location on the machine e.g. C:\Program Files\YourAppName. It must be saved to the machine that is going to be your floating server.
  3. As administrator, open a command prompt and navigate to turbofloatserver.exe file.

  4. Activate the Turbo Float server by passing firm's product key like this: TurboFloatServer.exe -a="ABCD-EFGH-IJKL-MNOP-QRST-UVWX".

  5. Use the -i command-line switch to install: TurboFloatServer.exe –i
